What to Mix and What to Keep Separate

Work through each product type before you fill your sprayer.

• Soil conditioners can go together Liquid soil conditioners such as kelp-based tonics and wetting agents are generally compatible with each other. Mix them freely, then water the lawn lightly afterwards to help them soak in.
• Foliar fertilisers and rescue products can be combined Products designed to be absorbed through the leaf, liquid fertilisers and quick-response treatments, can be mixed and applied together. Avoid watering them in straight after, as irrigation will wash the product off the leaf before it is absorbed. A light rinse is fine only if temperatures are extremely high.
• Keep iron-based products on their own Iron-based treatments should never be tank mixed with other products. Iron particles do not stay suspended in liquid and need to be agitated before use. Mixing them with other products makes clumping worse and can block your sprayer while reducing how well the iron actually works.
• Apply herbicides separately as a rule In most cases, herbicides should not be combined with other products before application. Mixing can alter their effectiveness and may increase the risk of lawn damage. The only exception is when the product label or information sheet specifically states that tank mixing is safe.
• Wait at least a day after herbicide before fertilising Once a herbicide has dried on the lawn you can follow up with other products, but leave at least one full day between the herbicide application and any fertiliser. This gap lets the herbicide do its job without interference.
• Lawn pigments need a dry finish Colour-enhancing pigment products are foliar treatments that dry and absorb into the grass leaf. They can be mixed with other foliar products for an efficient combined application. Do not mix them with anything that needs to be watered in, irrigation will rinse the pigment off the leaf before it takes effect.
• When in doubt, read the label first Always read the full application instructions and label for every product you use. If compatibility is not clearly stated, apply the products separately rather than risk damaging your lawn or wasting the treatment.
